Determining Where to Begin

The assessment for a pullup (as well as all other programs contained within) is pretty simple – find out what your body composition is, how strong your pull is and how effective your shoulder mobility is (for muscle ups only).

With these 3 criteria in mind, you will discover how to unlock your progress towards the pulling sequence (i.e. pullup 1 all the way to muscle up) and get there with a crystal clear roadmap, spelled out rep by rep movement by movement.

The simplest thing to start with is your height and weight.  From there, you will find your mass per inch.  This is similar to BMI, but not quite the same.  Nor does it infer the same outcomes.

-       Find your weight in pounds, divide by height in inches

-       150 pounds / 70 inches is a MPI of 2.4

Next, you’ll want to find your raw pulling power.  Find any lat pulldown machine (I know, everyone has one in their basement), but my suspicion is if you are doing this process you probably have a gym membership somewhere.

Take a seat and find a 1 Rep Max Lat Pulldown, with a couple of rules:

-       No sway, no momentum, no scap elevation running start

-       Pull below chin and hold for 1 second

Then, you will find your pull differential.  The pull differential is a novel calculation that factors how much pulling power you have to distribute over your entire length of mass.  That is, if you are long and heavy, pullups are hard.  If you are short and light, pullups are easier.  If you are strong, easier.  Weak, harder.  And so on and so forth.

Now this might all seem rather obvious “so you’re telling me that if I’m strong I can do a pullup and if I’m weak, I can’t…what a revelation!”

The important is that by finding these values and testing them against 100s of individuals, we found the exactintersection at which a pullup and muscle up can occur.  It cannot occur before these thresholds.

This then informs us as to how far you are away from these thresholds.  That is, you will know how far you have to go.

Finally, with the help of a body composition machine like an InBody or Dexa scan, you can determine exactly what kind of body composition changes must be present to make your way towards this mark.

With all of that being said, I can tell you precisely:

a)    How far you are

b)    What you need to do

c)     Where to begin

d)    How long to do it

This takes the guesswork and mystery out of it.  Finally, a crystal clear roadmap that will take you to your exact destination in a defined time based on defined parameters.

What if that all sounds to complicated to start with?  I got you!  Totally fine, this is not intuitive to many, I get that.  I am happy to arrange a session to test all of these measurements, give you exact details to run with and then you can be on your merry way.  The methods employed here are a bit more complex for sure, which is why there is nuance built in to ensure it works.

If you have not yet purchased this program and are previewing it, that is it!  The guide herein will tell you exactly what to do from there.

If you have purchased and are on the inside, thank you for entrusting us with your fitness – let’s begin!
